Recently bought an 2006 Yahama Jetboat, love it but absolutley hate trying to dock it, no control of boat what so ever. Anyone with any tips I would greatly appreciate it. I cant seem to get use to the loss of control at low speeds, more so with docking.

Thanks

Re: Yahama JetBoat Issue???

A jet boat will always lose steering at low speeds. This is due to the design/function of the jet pump in terms of sucking up water to "shoot" out the back to propel the watercraft. The upside to the design is that they will turn on a dime...and you can basically parallel park them. However, docking can be a challenge. The only advice I really have is to practice, practice, practice. The docking will come more naturally with time. With my Sea Doo, I move from Forward to Neutral to Reverse to keep the Doo at the right speed to keep steering.

Good Luck and take care of your Yamaha...those are some beautiful boats!

Re: Yahama JetBoat Issue???

i got no experience with yer boat man. i do have a yamaha pwc. very easy to control. think of it backwards. if ya want the stern to go port, turn starboard. visa versa the other way, in reverse. think about whats happenin with the jet stream when the grate is down. how it will be diveted. a pwc only has fwd or rev. i use reverse only at idle, very little throttle. i also use the reverse lever improper. i hold it in the middle for neutral. would recon you have a neutral position. (water being diverted straght down)i can stay stationary doing this or spin a 360 in the same spot. practice for sure. if ya go twin power ya can use that to yer advantage too. one fwd, one rev. should spin at that point.....
hope that helps, i know everyone says jetboats are hard to steer at low speeds. i have not found that to be perticularly true with my pwc(a small jetboat, @ 11'). perhaps thats the way is though. i've heard some jets are just impossible to deal with at low speeds..... practice seems like a good idea....
