Hi

My overheat buzzer sounds in my control box. I continuity tested my thermoswitch in a pan of hot water and found that it switches at 100 degrees Celcius and remains switched while cooling down to 80 degrees C. This is spot on according to the Yam manual. I then clamped a steel probe from a digital thermometer under the thermoswith clamp and ran the motor.

I warmed the motor until I reached a constant 60 degrees Celcius (varied slightly) then accelerated until my buzzer sounded. The temperature reading stayed more or less at 60 degrees C. The buzzer still sounded until I cut the revs right back to just above idle, still reading around 60 degrees C.

Is 60 degrees within the expected range for running up to about 3/4 throttle?

I am not 100% sure that the temp reading was accurate as my test was a bit crude.

When I got home I realised that I could have connected my multimeter to the thermoswitch when running the engine, and done the continuity test. This would have definitely confirmed that the motor wasn't actually overheating as I know my thermoswith is good.

If this temp reading is as expected, I think I am possibly looking at an electrical fault in the control box making the buzzer sound.

Is it worth taking a 703 type control box apart to investigate this?

I'm also thinking that I could maybe connect another external buzzer to the battery and the thermoswith instead of using the suspect circut to the one in the control box.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Andy
