Re: Yam F50 Four Stroke 1997 any good?
If it's the same powerhead they make for merc there is one issue I know of. Where the water tube plugs into the powerhead...they MAY get corrosion at the grommet and restrict water flow. The only fix is to pull the head and replace the grommet. Many early mercs had this problem but merc never had a recall. My merc dealer told me about it several years ago and I've read stories. I have a 96 Mariner (merc) carbed 50x4s (a yamaha powerhead)and not had this problem...but I flush heavily within 10 minutes of reaching shore every time. Otherwise it has been ok.

My dealer also told me the merc 50 (and others)uses a different lower leg than yamaha and the merc is more corrosion resistant. I live around salt water so this is a big deal here.
