I have a 1993 Monterey that I bought in 1996. It has the 4.3 litre Yamah stendrive. I know, I know, but who would have thought back in 1996 that getting parts would one day be an issue? Actually, except for replacing a shift cable a few years ago, it's never given me a minute of trouble. My question has to do with the exhaust system rather than the outdrive, I think.
A couple of years ago it started making an intermittent clicking sound when idling, but it goes away about about 1800 rpm's. I've isolated the source to the starboard side exhaust manifold, down low where it goes behind the engine. Does anyone know if there is a valve or flap inside there that could be sticking? I know Cap'n Ken is the guru on these things, so maybe he knows what could be going on. ??
