Hey Guys

I'm looking at a used 2000 Parker powered by a 115 Yamaha 4 Stroke. The motor/hull has no hour meter on it. The marina's tech connected his laptop to the motor and told me this model year (2000) does not have the ability to remember the hours logged.

True? Or are they pulling my leg? I'm having a tough time coughing up the coin for a unknown right now.

Thank's

I think they are telling you factual advice, the introduction of the software did not come out until the '04 tech guide. I have worked on some motors that have not had the necessary buttons hilighted to get the information you are requesting.

Re: Yamaha 115 4-Stroke Hour Meter question

When they told me they were unable to pull the hours off the motor I was a little put off. An 11 YO motor could for all I know have 1K hours on it. So I told the Broker I had to think about the deal.

Minutes later they caller me back (I missed the call) after speaking to the boats owner. The Broker at the marina went on to say the Owner had his boat serviced at another Marina last Summer. At that time those service people recorded 380H with their software. So as far as she was concerned the hours were A-OK and lets get the deal done.

Researching this motor it looks like not till late in 2001 did the ECM have the ability to accurately record and store RPMs and Hours. If this is true, how in the world did the "other marina" use their different software to pull the hours?

I found this a little convenient and honestly turned me off the sale.

Thoughts?

Well today's mechanic has to be good with the computer, in the tech guide it has about 12 pages on just how to upload the software. So without looking at YDIS system myself I could really not tell you.

I thought you were buying just the motor...not sure what boat your looking at but 15K sounds a little on the high side, unless boat has a lot of pricey add ons. I see a lot of 03-05 boats in that price range or lower.

here are 2 I found for under $13K and one of them is a 2003 and has T-top and aluminum trailer.
here is a 1999 for under $10 K

If you really want that boat I would offer them around $12K..I would be very surprised if they did not jump on it. If they did not take it I would call the people with that boat in Texas and offer $12K..for $3000 and a 3 year newer boat and t-top..it would be worth a drive to Texas. make a vacation out of it..

I'm not necessarily afraid of a boat without a proofmeter. If it runs good, I'm more concerned about the condition of the boat it's mounted on. Hopefully the engine has been treated as well as the hull.
