I have a new? Yamaha 115 hp 4 stroke engine ( purchased 2004/07 - done 183 hours ) that has developed lately a problem with the speedometer. The speedo was working fine till last week ( as compared against my GPS reading ). Its reading now shows 7 km/h irrespective of what speed I'm doing - basically it is stuck there. Even when the engine is off but the ignition is ON it still shows this reading. In trying to find the faulty I have disconnected the hose that runs to the back of the speedo. And also at the engine end, when I disconnected the hose, some water popped out. Is this normal? Can someone please advise how I can go about fixing this myself. It seems to have no effect on engine preformance - other then giving me a wrong trip mileage.<br />Thanks in advance for any assistance.

There is a tiny hole on the leading edge of the gearcase. It's probably clogged. Probe it with a paperclip. If that doesn't help, you might need a tiny drillbit to remove the clog. Just be careful. If you start seeing metal filings from the bit, Stop.
