Help!! I have rebuilt my motor after two "pros" rebuilt it and it blew up twice. I found a crimp in one of the oil lines to the cylinder that was blowing. I had the sleeve replaced as I was told the other was out of round and set down a bit too low. I have replaced the four coils on the back of the motor. The boat was running like a top, only ran it for about ten minutes. It was moored in the lake for a week. It started hard when and I ran it around for a short spin it just stopped. One side of the block was hotter than the other. I suspect that the heat sensor tripped and shut down the motor. After a few minutes, it started and ran ok but then stalled out. I think that the compression is still OK. Any ideas what could cause this problem?
All of the bearings were replaced, one cylinder was resleeved, all cylinders rehoned and all rings replaced, as well as one piston. The oil pump was replaced (not by me but by the prior rebuilder). I did run with oil in the gas as well as with the fuel injected oil during the break in period. I also replaced the CDI unit with a used one from RPI marina. The carbuerators were rebuilt about two years ago (as stated earlier, 4 coils on the back of the motor were replaced). The side of the block that was hot was the same side that blew two previous times. The number 4 cylinder was the one that blew twoce previously. I am thinking that the alternator stator may need replacing? What about the water thermostats on the back of the block?

We're here, Toad. We've read your post. I don't have any ideas or I would have responded. I suspect the other guys are in the same boat. Sorry. Good luck.

Red sky....
JB

The carbs should have been cleaned and the thermostats replaced at rebuild. Check compression, verify fuel flow, water flow, complete ignition check. Use premix until you know oil pump is pumping.
