Hello, does anyone know if it is ok to trailer transport a Yamaha 115 OB while Locked in the Up Positions using the motors "tilt suport lever". Some have told me that it is ok as long as you are not traveling cross country. But the dealer recomends that I purchase an additional support bar even for short trips. Has anyone have any input or experiences with this?...thanks.

Re: Yamaha 115 OB Transportation

I my opinion the tilt locks are not strong enough for transportation. I have had and seen the locks bend or break allowing the engine to slam down. Also the engine acts like a big level arm, trying to twist/break the transom.

The support bars are cheap compared to an engine or transom repair.

The device you being advised to use is called a "transom saver". It is a bar that attaches to the lower unit when the engine is raised. The other end fastens to the trailer frame. The twisting forces are therefore transfered to the trailer frame rather than the transom. You do not use the tilt lock when using a transom saver.
