yamaha 115 repower

I am buying a 17' cape horn that has a 1995 85 hp motor on it. Since I think that motor is too small for a 1600 lb. boat, I am negotiating with the dealer to put on a used 2000 115 yamaha. Does anyone think this is a good idea? What price would you guess would be fair for that motor?<br /><br />Thanks in advance!

What is your boat rated for? Anything over 70% of the rated HP is plenty. What kind of 85HP do you have on it now? The Yammy is a great motor, but even a year old one would probably cost you in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 grand (That's a guess, check NADA). While you're there, check what your 85 is worth as well.
