2001 yamaha 130 v4 2 stroke. Just installed. Idle is low. I ran it on muffs. If I run it in a barrel is that the same as running it in a lake? Just concerned with setting the idle mixture screws and idle speed before I take it out in the river. Thanks

depends on if you have the motor into water at the same depth.

Yea a barrel will get you close but what you really want is to be on the lake in gear for best results.

Ok. But it is better setting these mixture screws and idle speed in the barrel vs muffs right?
Correct, running at idle in a FULL barrel will be same as in lake. I usually leave garden hose on and in barrel in case pisser is losing water level pissing out to the side of barrel. You are also able to engage into fwd and rev while in barrel with same effect as lake water.Charlie

In a barrel your prop (engine load at idle) will be different. You will get your most efficient idle setting being underway on the water
