ok, this is going to be a newbie question so please forgive me in advance if my questions is a foolish one. i'm relatively new to boating i just bought my first boat 3 years ago and i'm a complete newbie to the yamaha engine as i bought a new to me 2001 seaswirl with a 150hp hpdi this past january. i just uncovered my boat today and started it up for the first time this season, the engine fired up very easily after about 3 seconds of cranking and idles a little rough, i've let the engine warm up for about 15 minutes and when i give it gas the engine runs rough gets up to between 800 - 1100rpm and then stalls out. the engine was rewinterized after i bought the boat this past january and i'm running it with the leg in a 50 gallon barrel. my question is is this normal behavior when starting an engine at the beginning of the season after the motor has been winterized? i think the answer is yes, but it's better to know than to think and hopefully someone can clarify this for me.

thanks,

brian

i'm not sure, i warm it up, put it in neutral and increase the throttle and it runs rough and stalls between 800 - 1100rpm.

Justintime is trying to tell you that that engine(hpdi) is supposed to only run on 2 or 4 cylinders in neutral, you have to have it in gear to get all cylinders to fire....
