My 15HP 4 stroke Yamaha 15 got moved and was stored on the improper side for the better part of a day. I understand this will flood the oil into improper areas? Can anyone tell me a. how I can find out if this happened to my motor and b. if it did what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,

Zach

you might need to pull carb apart and clean out the oil

Will I damage the engine if I simply try to start it? If there is oil in the carb, it will just stall out and then I know that it needs to be cleaned?

In either case is there a link or tutorial anywhere that gives me some of the ins and outs of cleaning this carb or will I need to bring it to the dealer?

Re: Yamaha 15HP stored port side up

I replied to your email msg but it got bounced. The motor is a 2002 and the it is a 15 HP short shaft.

Also, I am guessing you coudl give a me a good recomendation for a kicker bracket for this motor? I have been looking at the Garelick but didn't know if there is something I could get into that that is a little less expensive.

Thanks again.

Best,

Zach

pull the spark plugs and kill lanyard
spin the engine over a few times, remove the carb drain screw and drain the carb, reinstall all previouly removed stuff, check the oil level, and start the motor.
