I need the carb specs for a 86 pro-v 150. Carb is 6J900. My manual says pilot screw 1-1 1/4 out except if it is a pro-v then its 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 port and 3/4 to 1 1/4 starboard....and for other models throu 86 with carb 6g400 its 2 1/8-2 5/8.

Last year i tried with the pro-v settings and it sneezed something horrible. Right now its set at 1 3/4 port and 2 starboard. It runs pretty good at idle but could be better.

So before I get going on it too much figure I would do some research on pilot specs and float height specs and compare too what my manual says.

I know when you get into these older motors can be a headache. I saw the same thing, but if you can get it to idle in gear and make a smooth transition to get up on plane, I would not worry about it. Make sure your WOT timing is correct and be glad that your engine model number does not have the suffix AETO!

Yea your probably right, motor is 20 years old. It starts up idles great, no bog, top end is great. Checked plugs, burning tan. It just makes me wonder why the starboard is out 3/4 of a turn than recommended. The other thing is at troll it just isn't real smooth. It doesn't sneeze but I havn't really put it too the test too see if it will foul out.
I might try too tune it in boat at troll, not sure how too do it. I guess just tune it one carb at a time. I've did other outboards I've owned where you turn the pilot out till it sputters, turn in till it sputters and set at halfway in between. I know yamaha pilot just affects how much mixture it gets, I dunno I'll play with it a little more. Thanks Ken

i have a" new" to me 87 pro v 150,i rebuilt carbs ,idles fine, but no hole shot, and tops out at 4800 rpm, motor sat for 10 years, run on remote tank, clean fuel, my manual does not go back that far for timming spec, compression marginal range 87- 105,never had ethenol, but may stand for a good dose of seafoam, any ideas would be a help, thanks

Well it really depends on the load, and if you read the tune up specs those are starting positions. If you were pushing a conoe vs. a pontoon. It always gives the in gear idle recommended rpm. Two strokes generally love to run at WOT. Just run your fuel stabilizer and do your maintainence and you should be fine.
