2002 150 HPDI I had the powerheads rebuilt. Breaking in the engines and have around 9 hours on them. Went out on water no problems so far. Pulled anchor to relocate and port motor wont start. Starter spins flywheel but engine doesn't fire up, doesn't even sputter, sounds like its got no spark. No alarms. Checked what I could on the water, had fuel, oil, battery voltage good, shifter in neutral, etc. Limped in on starboard motor, trying to start port motor occasionally on the way back in with no luck.
Trailered motor home and looked around motor, checking connections, looking for anything obvious, tap on a few sensors etc. Decided to see if I had spark so pulled one wire, put screwdriver in it and held it next to ground to check for spark, engine starts. Engine continues to start many times.
Fast forward a week. I decided to change the on-engine oil pumps (the pump that pumps the oil to the 6 cylinders). Started starboard engine and bled the oil pump. Went to start port engine and starter spins flywheel but it wont start, just like before. Just keeps turning over same as before. I poked around engine wiring moving stuff around like before, and retry to start, and it starts. It seems like something might be loose or shorted. I have the yamaha manual but I cant find a wiring diagram which shows how the kill switch wire runs in the motor, or even what wire it is. I only have one kill switch which is wired for both motors, so I don't think its a problem at the helm control or wiring in the boat. What sensor or loose wire on the motor, would keep the motor from starting intermittently, with no alarms? YDS doesn't show any problems when connected, but I didn't have it connected when it wouldn't start.
Thanks,
Dave
