I just got a great deal on a 2006 f150 with a 25 inch lower.

I need to know how difficult it is to change it over to 20 inch and remove the spacer block

I know I need a new Drive shaft, shift shaft, and water tube, and trim anode bolt.

I have heard that people regularly do this to their engines, But I cannot find any information online on directions.

I appreciate the advice in advance.

Free factory service manuals www boatinfo.no/lib/library.html. Click Yamaha Find your 2006 f150.

I have no idea how much it's going to cost to take off 5 inchs, My crabbing bud has a EFI 90 hp,it runs like a car, every time he turns it off in the middle no where my heart stops, but the yam always starts, good for you.

I am not sure how much this would cost in parts and labor, but have you thought about a jack plate to raise motor 5 inches

It has to go to a 20" shaft. I cannot keep it as a 25" shaft.

When I was looking for these f150 motors for my boat, I would regularly see ads that would say "I can change this to a 20" or 25" shaft at no extra charge"

It made me believe that since there was a 5" spacer on the motor, yamaha made it easy to go back and forth from 20" to 25"

but I cannot find any diy post out there

If you have the 5'" Spacer should be a matter of taking the old parts off and putting new parts in.Depending on how the parts come out of the lower unit will be the biggest issue. Get a service manual. Once you get the new parts in just bolt it back on.

The conversion is very simple. I went the other direction, purchased a new engine with a 20" but needed 25" for my boat. I purchased a NEW 25" lower unit. I still have the removed, new never used 20" complete lower unit in a box if you need one.
