I just picked up a new 2010 2-stroke 9.9ph Yamaha ( replaced 1969 6hp stolen Evinrude )and require the break in procedure. I know it requires 50/1 mixture for 2-tanks of fuel and run at various speeds but is there anything else?
Comments on this engine also appreciated. Research seemed positive and I wanted 2-stroke for weight and simplicity.
It also came with a 3 gallon fuel tank which I don't imagine will go very far?

unless this is an international market engine it cant be a 2010.
look on the tag on the stbd bracket for a manufacture date.
yamaha ceased imports of all 2 strokes with the exception of the VZ200 as of jan 01 2010.
I would prefer using 25/1 as a breakin and then 50/1 for normal running.
this insures that if you lay it up over 30 days there is enough oil on the shiney parts inside to combat rusting.
it wil run fine at 100/1 after breakin but it leaves no margin for any cooling or fuel system degredation nor long term protection against rust.
if you consult your owners manual you will find any period of inactivity longer than 30 days is considered long term storage and follow those instructions.
you will find that taken care of that is one sweet motor and if it needs more power most are simply a reed box change, post the full model number and seriel number and ill try to look.

The tag shows mfg. date 02/10. Model # 9.9SMH

It was on clearance at a marine dealer in Hamilton, Ontario.

You are correct they are no longer available when current inventory is gone.

thats not a US market motor.
however its the same as ours were.
break it in on 25/1, run it on 50/1.
change the tstat and water pump yearly, then run it like you stole it and it will be happy.
