Yamaha's F225 4-stroke...

Has anyone dealt with this motor? Opinions?

I know the low end tourque is less than that of a 225 2-stroke but is is that noticable?

Is the top end the same as a 2-stroke?

Other experiences?

works great never breaks,
its really not a fair comparason. cant comepare an engine with a power pulse at each tdc to one with a power pulse every other tdc.

Re: Yamaha 225 4-stroke

most likely, especially without some playing with props.
one of the major problems we have propping the 4 strokes is prop technology.
so yes there may be some noticable difference in hole shot, top end you may pick up a bit as the F225 can be run and run hard at 6000 RPM.
try to shoot for a max RPM of about 5900, if it maxs at 6100 your most likly on the rev limiter, the limiter is so smooth its almost unnoticable.

Re: Yamaha 225 4-stroke

Thanks Redbolt!

If I were to move forward with this option, I'm told a jackplate would be necessary due to the transome hight of my ranger (provided at no additional cost) as the F225 shat lenght is 25" rather than the 20" of the OX66, I'm tempted to make it (pay the diif)an hydrolic one so I can tweek it for maximum effect :) . Not sure the size though (4.5,6,7,10 etc) -

Do you know if they got all the bugs worked out of the F225's?

Re: Yamaha 225 4-stroke

not many bugs ever found with the F225. there was a recall for some throttle linkage that had the potential to create a problem if not kept maintained and a warenty mod on the regulator/rectifier on some of the 02 and 03 models but other than that its been a solid motor.
if ya jackplate it hydrualic is the only way to fly. make sure your steering system can go up and down without binding. the new command link guage package is pretty cool as well.

Thanks Redbolt! I'll pass on my new found opinions and see what develops.
