Which would you choose and why?

Yamaha 25 HP 2 Stroke or 4 Stroke? On 14' Crestliner.

Thanks,

Andy

If I was going to a Yamaha it would be a 2 stroke. Lighter, better hole shot,
fewer less complicated service intervals.Much much less moving parts.
You should take a look at the Evinrude Etec 25 or 30 A direct injection 2 stroke
No breakin period,No service for 3 years or 300 hours.Meets or exceeds all CARB requirements.Etec is an approved 2 stroke on Lake Tahoe and used on official boats.

I read that the Yamaha is 50 pounds lighter than the E-tech ...

I really like my F25, but it is crazy heavy for a small boat like that. The 2-stroke is ~70lbs lighter.

I bought the 2 stroke Yami 25hp myself new in 2006 for a 16' bench seat utility boat and have never regretted it. Fantastic motor that I wouldn't trade for a 4 stroke...

About 36 lbs lighter than the Direct injected Etec. However the Etec is generally lighter than the typical 4 stroke. And can be run on any waters banning motors not meeting CARB requirements.

Hi

Just got back from a great day out with my 13 foot skiff with Yamaha 25hp two stroke (just fitted new prop) she has not been started for at least a year so, quick check over, charge battery and, hey presto she started no problem and gave sterling service for the best part of 3 hours. So easy to check and service. Easy to use with spare parts readily available here in UK. Mine is 10 years old and very economical

Recently spoke with the lifeboat guys nearby. They swear by the 2 stroke engines by Yamaha.

I personnally would go with the 2 stroke just because it is simpler, less parts = less to go wrong and lower maintanance, the weight savings would be a bonus.
