I have bought a 1978 Yamaha 3.5 air cooled engine of ebay last week. At first I couldn't get any kind of spark, after taking the flywheel of and setting and cleaning the points I have was able to get a spark every other pull of the starter rope. I have been to look at the engine again tonight and once more I have been unable to get a spark. I do not have any test equipment, am I right to suspect firstly the condenser then the points and then the coil. obviously I don't want to replace parts that are not faulty.
