I may change to a yamaha 50hp 2 stroke. I am running a 40hp 4 stroke now. I have rear seat stick steering on my tunnel hull boat 16'.

How much louder will the 2 stroke be than the 4 stroke?

Will there be a great deal of difference in gas mileage?

The 2S will be a lot louder at idle and low speed, about the same on plane.

The 2S will use about twice as much gas if it is carbed, about the same if it is DFI.

The F40 four stroke Yamaha engine has three carburetors and the 50 hp 2 stroke also has three carburetors. The fuel usage is very close. You should have more reliability and much better performane with the 50 hp. Maintenance should also be less expensive.
