I have a 1996 40 HP Yamaha 2 stroke on a 16 foot metal bass boat. It has a Solas Prop on it and came with it ---I bought the boat used. It turns about 4900 to 5000 RPMs. The 3 blade Solas Prop has 11.4 X 12 stamped on it and also has MYSTH stamped on it. I want to carry a spare prop and maybe even change to stainless and use the Solas as a spare. The boat seems to run OK with what it has...but I wonder if it could be better...please advise me on this.
I really don't know what to do...It is so confusing. I thought about getting a cheap composite prop as a spare to get me home in an emergency but I can't find one with these measurements....The guy said they made two props to fit me one was a 11 pitch and one was a 13....He said either would work. It seems that there is not many places to buy an exact replacement.....There are so many -- 3 blade, 4 blade, composite, splines or pins or what ....etc etc...It seems the 40 is through the hub but some say pins or 13 splines....Maybe I should just get another aluminum Solas and be done with it....
I can't afford to be buying stuff that doesn't work,,,Can somebody please tell me what I should do here
