I want to change the water pump impeller on this 40 HP Yamaha. It is a 1992 I believe. I have not done one on this engine, but I did do a 60 Hp Merc. Is this about the same skill level? Any tricks or special tools needed? Any other parts that should be change while I'm in there. I remember on the Merc that you had to have the shift lever in a certain (can't remember which)position. Any help would be appreciated. I am doing this for maintance I know it has not been change in the 4 years I have owned it. Thanks

Re: Yamaha 40 hp water pump

Well since I received no responce from anyone I will respond to myself just to try and help someone else. It was a snap, I found that most yahama's you do not need to do anything about the shift lever except leave it in netural, but the c40 you must disconnect the shift rod. This is very easy it' sort of like a turnbuckel just loosen the locking nut and unthread the "turnbuckel".
