Yamaha 40hp Ruff idle

I have a 1989 40hp 2 stroke Yamaha model# 40ETLF sat for about 2.5 years wouldn't start at all - took off and cleaned carbs started right up but now idles and runs ruff with some back-fire. Could it be the carb settings? if so does anyone know the correct settings?

If it's back firing...it's probably timing.

If it sneezes...it's probably not getting fuel...still have a gummed up carb??
