Yamaha 60hp with 703 control running problems

Hi,

I have a Yamaha 60hp 2 stroke and think it's about 1993. It has a 703 remote control box. I thought these 703's were push to choke but mine doesn't push in. The engine starts from cold without issue and goes well under full power. When I stop for a while the engine refuses to restart. I have to use the emergency red lever on the outboard and it then restarts. When I'm coming in if I drop the revs to idle, it cuts out and then refuses to restart for about 10 minutes! It has new plugs and fresh fuel. I'm thinking maybe the push to choke switch is stuck in causing the engine to flood but would it still go well under full power. Thanks, Craig

find your complete model # and post that,
guessing does not help anyone know what motor you have

with a red lever ,my guess is it is a prime start model and does not have a choke.
do you keep the red lever in the normal position so it works automatically?
my guess again is that you do not have it in the proper position.
if it is, clean the carbs, check the fuel pump(or replace it), flush the fuel lines and system out well along with the tank.

make sure the prime start system is functioning properly

Hi,

Thanks for the information, I will pop over and get the model and serial numbers and post later. The red lever seems to be an override and is between the carbs on the outboard. It starts with it in the normal position but won't restart when warm unless I place it into the closed position. The prime ball on the fuel line to the tank works ok and goes hard when pumped. Do I need to remove the carbs to clean? After reading that the Yamaha 703 controls ignition switch was a push in to choke I thought maybe mine is stuck in as it doesn't push in. Thanks for your help.

Hi, the red lever has normal, closed and emergency. I've added a photo of the serial plate but can't find the age. It's 60hp 3 cylinder connected to 703 controls and used with a prime ball fuel line to a plastic removable tank. If the 703 control push to choke button was stuck in, would this cause the issues I mentioned? Thanks again.

lookks like it is a
60 Feto
6H2 L 462??
post what the rest is and someone can help identify the year even though it is not one from the US

if it has the red lever it should not have a choke, so that should answer your question on the key switch.
But you can look at the carbs yourself to see if they have choke plates to prove it

Hi, it's 462346 and thanks again for your help. I was going to order a new push to choke ignition switch!
I will take a look at the carbs to see if a choke plate is fitted. If not I suppose I need to get the auto enrichment checked along with the carbs. Thanks.
