Yamaha 704 binnacle remote install

1998 wellcraft 190 ccf center console. NEED to remove omc wide controller and install a 704 remote. Hole for 704 remote is much narrower than the omc hole. Here's some pictures. Thinking of a way to cover the too wide hole in the console. Would a sheet of abs plastic work to screw to the console and then cut out the required space for the 704 remote?

Ayuh,..... I would probably go with a piece of aluminum, rather than plastic myself,....
Easy to work with, more secure, 'n doesn't sun-rot like plastic,....

Ok yes good point. What thickness do you recommend?

I guess it depends on what you've got, or can get,....
1/8" or thinner, but thick enough for support,...
