Having trouble on which way to go with a new prop. I have a 1992 8hp yamaha that currently has a 8 1/2 x 7 1/2 prop on it. I hit a rock and need a new one. I know I`m not gonna have all the planning power in the world but would like to get the right prop for what I want to do. With the current prop it takes a little longer to plane out but it does. Any weight and it won`t. Just wondering which way to go. I have this motor on a 10ft Livingston which I know isn`t the most efficent hull for planning. Thanks

Re: Yamaha 8hp Prop

Your right just the size of the hull alone makes load carrying a challenge.
Without rpm and speed its impossible to be accurate; but if you decrease the pitch one size
it will help. You could get the prop fixed and do a light test run with a tach and gps,
we could pin down the prop size better. Keep in mind that as you decrease pitch the motor may over rev with a light load.
