Yamaha 9.9 ELHR Corrosion problem

I have several holes in my upper casing. They weren't there when I put my boat away in October 2011. But now I have 2 big holes and the inside of the holes have turned to dust. I need an upper long shaft casing if anyone has one for sale and I really want to know what caused that corrosion so that it doesn't happen again.

That must be a Yamaha problem, my buddies did the same thing. He just bought another T9.9 last fall. I also have a 2009 T9.9, sure hope we don't have any problems like that on the new ones. Good luck on finding the parts you need.
I had a 15 HP Honda for a kicker for 15 years and no signs of corrosion on it when I sold it.
