I bought a 2000 9.9 from a dealer which was unused for 6 years. It started great last fall but when I tried it on my sailboat, it started but didn't kick it. I took apart the carburetor,poured gas in put wd-40 on the spark plugs and it worked. What do you think was wrong? Also, it seemed to rev very high in neutral but the rpm decreased when I put it into gear. Is it normal for this engine to sound like it is revving high? If it is abnormal, is there a way to l,ower the idle? Last question: I have this motor attached to cables that are connected to a yamaha shifter in the cockpit. When I put it in gear, there was a loud sound of metal hitting as the motor went into gear? Is this normal? Thanks for any help Gerry
