I have a 2003 Proline 22 bay with a 1998 Yamaha 150 saltwater series # S150txrw. I have hade this boat since November and I have used it alot since. Yesterday at the lake I drove around for about 2 hours and I stopped and got 45 gallons of fuel. When took off after gas as I reached 5000 rpm's the motor sounded like it lost a cylinder, It started slowing down and quit. It would start back but would run rough. I went back to the marina to see if water was in the gas and I bought a new fuel/warer sepertor but the old one did not have much water in it. If I primed the bulb it would run perfect for about 45 seconds and then it would run rough and slow down and would turn 1600 rpm's WOT and sounded like it was not running on all six. If you primed it while it was doing this it would take off. The primer bulb will not get hard it feels like it has air in it. The number 1 plug was wet and I put new plugs in and the same happened. I take good care of this motor I fog it in the winter and keep the fuel tank full and treated. I take it and have it serviced alot. I had the carbs redone in May and have put several hours on her since. If you shut it down and prime the bulb start it up hold it wide open it will take off and run fine then it starts running rough and slows down to 1600 rpm's or quits.

Re: Yamaha blues

dont continue to run it like that. sounds like you have a ruptured fuel pump diaphragm. time to get your fuel pumps serviced.

Re: Yamaha blues

You can do it yourself. Back off the bolts holding the pump where it will back off from the engine and squeeze the bulb. Fuel will flow out of the pump if the pump is bad.

Re: Yamaha blues

Yamaha fule pumps are about $38.00 each. I recently had mine changed. The only reason I did not do it myself is that other work was being done on the motor.
I also purchased a Yamaha manual from this site.
It details alot of common procedures.

However, guys like Ray and Rodbolt are probably the best source of info around. As well as everyone else on this site. Listen to them.

Michael
