Hi I have a 1987 Yamaha 115Hp which has had a few issues and with the help of some guys on this forum Ive been making progress with it. Another issue is the Throttle has been stiff and recently it has been getting stuck. Once it got stuck at slow speed in forward gear. Since then several times I couldnt get it in reverse then eventually it went into gear easily and would then work well for a while with no issues before getting stuck again. It is like something is getting stuck either in the control box or in the cable. Any ideas. Should I open up the contol box and spray Lanox everywhere (kind of light oil) its a corrosion resistant oil. I do have a water in the gearbox oil issue (milky) I am wondering if it is something to do with that as well. Thanks in advance.

You should change the lower unit oil right away. Replace the seals on the drain and vent screws. Monitor the fluid and if it gets milky again you will need to replace the seals.

It sounds like new cables are needed. Disconnect the cables from the motor and see if they move smoothly.

Yep, disconnect cables back at the motor to identify source of sticking.....double check your control friction screw....the problem may be in your cables which need replacing....

I Disconnected the cables from the motor and yes the friction screw was very tight and possibly part of the problem. But the cables seem to be working fine with no sticking and working freely once the friction screw was loosened. I cleaned out the control box and greased it u. When I connected it up again ( Ive changed the gearbox oil) and started the motor it was stuck in neutral I couldnt budge it at all it was stuck solid there was no crunching or any thing it was like the cables were stuck. I then turned the motor off and I was then able to move it in and out of gear. I then turned the motor back on and then it freely went in and out of gear as though there was no problem at all. I am wondering if the milky oil was starting to have some kind of effect on the mechanism in the gearbox that changes the gears. When I changed the oil this was the first time to start it so I am wondering if now the new oil is working around the parts if this issue may be ok for a while till it gets milky again. Im a bit worried about going out in it as if it gets stuck while out in the water I will be in trouble if it dosent right itself as it seems to be doing now.
Thankyou for all your advice appreciate it.
