Yamaha controls

I have recently bought a boat and need a new 90hp - 115hp motor. The 2002 model boat has fairly new Yamaha controls and I would like to know if it is possible to use the Yamaha controls on other brands of motors such as Mercury or Johnson. The Yamaha controls are already hooked up in the boat and the boat was only used five times. I also would like any opinions that you may have on the Yamaha 2 stroke motors. Thanks for any information you may have to share.

Thanks,
Pwood

Re: Yamaha controls

Each brand has specific controls unless the controls are top mounted (binnacle) and a are made by an aftermarket company such as Morse.

Even with those, the wiring harnesses are different.

Re: Yamaha controls

Most controls have multiple cable mounting points to make them fairly universal. If there's an electrical harness involved, they're Brand Specific.

In General, Yamaha makes good motors.

Re: Yamaha controls

Thanks for the replies. I'm going with the Yamaha 90. All wiring harnesses and the controls in the boat will hook up fine. Now I hope I didn't short change myself by putting a 90hp on a boat that's rated for a 115hp. Thanks for the help.

pwood
