Hi, I have a Yamaha f90 2016. It had a tiller handle when i bought it but I removed that and hooked up remote steering and 703 controls and digital RPM gauge. The guage is working fine except the trim indicator is just showing full up all the time. I checked the small arm and stop under the motor where the sender is located and all seems free and fine. The plug with the pink wire on front of the motor in the pan was unhooked when I bought the motor, but I clipped that together and the guage still don't work. Also i noticed the pink wire that i clipped together is a single wire with no black ground even though the wire leaving the sender has a pink and a black. Is this correct? Do you think the sender is broke or am I missing something?

Yesterday I noticed that the trim indicator started to work while I was on the water and today it doesn't again? Also on that guage the total engine hours is only showing the total since I installed it, not total lifetime hours. Its the 6y5 guage. Shouldn't it be able to get the total hours from the engine?

There is a Plastic Collar on the Transom Mount, It moves an arm on the trim indicator.

It has a bolt that can loosen, or the arm itself can break, then the arm doesn't get moved.

Yeah, I checked that and the arm moves freely and the thing that moves the arm is in place and solid as it should be.

Further research tells me that the guage I have only shows the hours that the guage was in use, not the motor. Dumb idea, but what are ya gonna do? I suspect the trim guage is a faulty sender. How would I test this?

I could be wrong but I would think the sending unit is similar to a fuel gauge sending unit - a Linear potentiometer.

You can check the resistance with an ohm meter.
