I recently bought a used boat:

engine: year 2000 F100
Block has the following info in a recessed rectangular area on the rear port side near the lower unit: "67F01 Y-1" and a raised circular ~1/2" diameter spot with "00"over a"12" in the circle (is that the block ID?) Is there a way to tell if it's matched with the mounting bkt s/n?
Mounting bracket s/n information: F100 TLRY, 67F L 307699
Very recently had carbs rebuilt to correct a mid-range jet problem (low power through mid range). Now it runs great until the oil alarm goes off.
engine had been "remanufactured" (not sure what that means) by a company in PA, and delivered May of 2007.
power head looks like it was originally black and then painted "yamaha", including paint over a couple of stickers on the rear of the engine. (Merc head?)
I was told that the engine had the wrong dipstick
drained oil. filled with prescribed quantity of oil (per label on back of engine). The resulting level was ~.5 qt higher than the dipstick would have required.
Installed new oil filter: Mallory #957804

After motoring around a few hours at various rpm in choppy seas, (putting crab pots out and goofing around), in the range 2500-4kRPM, oil warning alarm sounded, accompanied by the oil icon on the dash gauge. Stopped/shut down engine, restarted and had to keep it at low speed to avoid repeat. Noted that the oil level after this test was lower by about half quart. Not sure if it had been over-filled and got splashed away

no oil leaks found, even after using fluorescent dye
no plume in wake
no water in oil
no smoky oil fumes
compression checked out OK prior to me buying the boat
oil doesn't smell funny

Found out the oil sending unit was non-original. It had been installed with an adapter contraption into block threads that seemed damaged (probably why original unit wasn't used)

Bought factory dipstick for the engine s/n on the mounting bracket. This dipstick had very close to the same depth marking as the one it replaced, but the diameter of the plug at the top didn't fit snugly into the dipstick hole. Filled oil level to proper about using the "correct" dipstick, and temporarily put back in the "wrong" dipstick to avoid spilling/leaking oil. Turns out the two dipsticks indicate very close to the same required level, which is lower than the prescribed amount on the engine sticker. Temporarily connected a mechanical gauge in place of the oil pressure switch. and went out for another sea trial. After ~40 minutes of running around 4krpm, and around 60 psi, the gauge indicated rapid temporary dip to very low pressure near zero. On one of these occasions, the engine power dipped with the oil pressure. Concluded that even the factory pressure sending unit would have set off the alarm with this behavior.

Is this a pump problem? Relief valve sticky? block? (I'm going to install the Yamaha filter and try further)
