Took the boat out this weekend for a full day of fishing in South Louisiana. When we put in, the motor cranked up quick and idled real good. When we went to take off though, it seemed as though the motor didn't quite have the power it normally has. It took it a little longer to come up to top rpm than usual and top rpms were off from normal. Normally I am running 5200-5400 rpms with a similar load but this time I was getting around 4500 rpms and if I trimmed up any more it would just start porpoising. When I would slow down and take the motor out of gear, the engine would take a long while to come down to the idle rpm level. Anyway, we ran like this most of the day. The next day I was cleaning the boat up and decided to pull the cover off the motor just to check the oil and the little fuel filter on the side of the engine to make sure that filter was not restricted and to see if there was any water present. All was good. I decided to pull the plugs and pulled all the plugs and found them all in good shape. As I was putting the spark plug cover back on, I noticed a plug on the port side of the motor at the top of the "throttle body" was unplugged. It was just barely hanging on but was not plugged in at all. I didn't know what the plug was for but after looking at the position of the sensor it was plugged into, I can only assume this is the throttle position sensor plug (again, it is the plug on the sensor at the top of the throttle body where the black air intake meets the metal intake manifold).
My question is that is there any chance that I damaged something on the motor running it with this plug unplugged. I plugged the plug back in tightly and ran the motor on the muffs and the throttle came down to idle normally now and ran otherwise fine. I was just wondering if something could have been damaged from running the motor like this.
Please let me know if I should be looking for some other damage from this.
BTW, the little lock on top of the plug that is supposed to prevent the plug from coming unplugged is real weak and doesn't really hold the plug real well (you can still pull the plug off if you pull on it) so I put a zip wire tie on the plug to hold it in place.
Thanks for any of your help. Later.
