I had a strange thing happen yesterday. We put in and started the boat - it started fine. Ran over to the beach where we hang out at and shut it down. I needed to pull a little bit further up so I went to start it back up and it made a grinding noise like when a starter is engaged with the motor running. I tried starting it again and it fired right up. We started the boat a few more times throughout the day and it was fine. Has anyone had this happen? It sounded like a bad starter gear or bad spot on the flywheel. I have never had this happen before on this motor and we have owned it since new in 2007.

Re: Yamaha F150 Starter Noise

the fly wheel may have just been in a position where the bendix did not engage right ......or you may have had a piece of gunk on the spline which did not allow to fully engage.....spray the spline with a quick shot of break cleaner...then oil the spline with some 3 n 1 oil....\
