I bought one of these limit switches today and took a quick look at the boat to see what the installation will take. The switch mounts easy enough but I didn’t see where to plug in the wires. I followed the harness from the trim switch on the side across the bottom of the cowl to the main harness and followed that up the front of the power head but didn’t see where the switch would plug in. The switch has a light blue, a dark blue and a black wire each with it’s own connector. The motor is a 2020 F150. Rumor has it the switch is plug and play but Yamaha didn’t include any instructions I can’t find the plug to play. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I finally got a chance to go back out and have a second look. The connection is pretty well hidden on the F150. That’s it wrapped in yellow tape next to the oil filter and behind the starter cables:

The actual switch didn’t mount quite as easy as it appeared it would. The steering cylinder had to be removed. I probably didn’t do that the best way possible. There isn’t enough room to install the bolt in the steering arm when the switch is installed so I had to leave the switch mount bolts loose to reinstall the bolt in the steering arm. Then tighten the switch mount bolts. The switch works great and wasn’t difficult to adjust (I adjusted before reconnecting the steering). Personally, I think the installer of the motor should pay for the switch, $1500 cowl and the damage to the boat since they should have performed operational checks on the motor before they returned the boat. Unfortunately, the owners of the boat did not want to pursue it.

Check everything your boat mechanic does. We took 3 boats to 3 different dealerships (3 different motor brands) to get work done in 2021. Two of them had mechanic induced problems as a direct result of incompetence. This one was the most expensive by far.
