I have an F80 with 120 hours. A mechanic decided to take out all the carbs and "clean" them, only he had no idea how to sync them. In the end I bought a vacuum tool with 4 dials and we did some basic adjustment. However lots of other things are now out of kilt.
What we can see and adjust is:
1) the idle screw on carb #4
2) the individual throttle screws on carbs #1, #2 and #3
3) I seem to remember the idle air mixture but I have read this is protected by a brass seal, so I am not so sure
4) the throttle cable adjusting screws
5) the forward/reverse gear adjusting bits and pieces
I am going from memory so far, I last looked at it a year ago.
The problems currently are that at idle it sometimes spits (sneezes?). It also has hard time maintaining idle which according to the tachometer is at 600 or 700 rpms. Finally the remote control going from neutral to forward is problematic, I cannot keep it at very slow speed, it will cut out. It runs nicely from 1100 rpms or more, but anything lower and it runs badly or cuts out. That makes it very hard for me to go into port with dozens of other boats and anchor lines and bouys all over the place which I have to avoid.
So I am looking for an easy guide to adjust the engine.
I know how to do the carb syncs. You start the engione and let it warm up. You adjust carb #4 idle to 1100 rpm. You then adjust the throttles on the other carbs to get the same reading as #4.
I do not know how to adjust the idle mixture. Any help greatly appreciated. Do I need special tools for it?
Then there is the throttle cable and the gear cable which connects to the remote control. As the mechanic took them out I am not sure they are adjusted properly. How do I adjust them?
Many thanks
