Yamaha gearcase seals

Has Yamaha always put drive shaft and prop shaft seals in facing the same way? and can you put them in back to back? 1990 80hp

yes, always, both springs face out, will it work the other way?
dunno, I just put the stuff back together as designed. the engineering work has already been done and proven thats why this is so easy.
