at our tailgate party this weekend, my buddy pulled out his yamaha ef1000is generator. awesome little unit, light, extremely quiet, etc.

while i don't really have a use for it just yet, it's one of those things you just want to own, simply for the cool factor.

any thoughts or experience with this unit? no electrical engineer here, but was exactly could i run with this? he ran a 27" or so t.v. with no problem, but what else could i run? what exactly happens if i try to run something that pulls too much?

unit is described here...

http://www.yamahagenerators.com/ef1000iS_specs.htm?cart=11000164087003450

Re: yamaha generator

It's rated at 900 watts (nine 100 watt light bulbs- if you get my drift). That means you can power things up to 900 watts total. Or 7.5 amps at 120 volts AC. That's about half the power of a typical house circuit. Most devices you would want to run have power requirements on their labels.

Oh, and it sounds like they worry about the continuous load... it is rated at 1/4 rated load for only 12 hours. That would be about 225 watts continuous.

So, running a TV and a few incandescent bulbs would be cool, drying your hair would trip its breaker. I would be interested in it if I lived in an area of frequent power outages for convenience.

fp

Re: yamaha generator

TVs,+ Stereos don't really draw much power......

Power Tools, Drills, Grinders, Shop Vacs, etc will Really Labor that generator...........

Anything that has a Heating Element, Coffee Makers, Hair Dryers, etc, Will Trip the Breaker...........
