Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

Glad he could help..He's a good guy when he's alseep!!

Are you the guy that called him and he just gave your guy the part number so he could order it?

He's also got alot of used stuff sometimes so keep him in mind. Big thing today Im sorry to say is to re-power. Mercrusier will fit right in the transom with a small mod. Hope you dont get that far. The yammie outdrive is a good drive but they are not supporting it in the USA like they should. Somthing to do with Politics between Mercrusier and Yammie.

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

Trent Yes Ken hooked up with the local service people but Ihad to prepay. This I/O is in a 93 Sierra 16 foot walk-up front and the whole family LOVES it. But I was really disappointed that the local service people couldn't locate the part for me. But that is ancient history with guys like YOU and KEN out there to help us poor unfortunates with limited knowledge about these things. I salute you.

Bart...

Don't feel like you're alone in this situation. Every post I've read in here re: Yammie outdrives tells the same story. ZERO, NADA, ZIP customer service from the Yamaha dealers when it comes to their I/O's. It's a bunch of crap if you ask me. They sold them...they should service them. But in the dealers defense...I think it's like Trent said...this is a struggle between the big wigs at Merc and Yamaha...the dealer probably has little to say in all this. Nevertheless...it sure sucks for the guy who just wants to get his outdrive repaired.

Walt

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

Walter, the problem in Bart's case was that his dealer did not have the parts break down on the Yammie outdrive. Yammie parts breakdowns are on CD. If you were not a Yammie I/O dealer way back and dont have the old Microfiche you will not have the parts breakdown.

If you got the p/n and are a Yammie dealer you can order the parts. But ya got to have the numbers :(

Of course alot of parts are NLA.

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

In defense of the other dealers, unless they were set up as a Yamaha I/O repower center, they never received microfishe on the sterndrive like I did in 1990. When Yamaha came out with all their parts on CD a couple of years ago, they kinda left out the sterndrive except for a few pieces and parts. Bart, did the guys quote you the same price that I told you? I'm probably one of the few dealers that still try to help out with the sterndrives in the southeast and if parts aren't available, I try to find something that will work in their place. But like Trent said, I've been repowering with Mercruisers lately so that's been giving me some extra used parts that's getting hard to find. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Now the bad news, they probably didn't have the tools to re shim the gears in your upper when they installed the new bearing. Keep your fingers crossed. Heck, I've still got the tools for the Hydrodrive gathering dust on the wall that I've never used.

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

Captain Ken,

I desparately need your help. Not sure if this is going to find you or not, hope so!

I posted last year after going a second season without my boat (Yamaha 5.7 having shift problems)

I'm definitely in danger of going a third season without my boat. You were right(I never doubted it)I am paying these guys to learn on my boat. Here's the problem, when I shift into forward the boat goes forward, when I'm in neutral the boat goes forward (at a constant speed but faster than I'm comfortable docking) when I shift into reverse the boat goes forward (just like when I shift into fwd, the more gas I give it the faster I go forward). Shifting is smooth and easy.

I'm wodering if it has anything to do with the length of the transom shift cable from the barrel to the shift cable end? Of course I know nothing about it.

So far it's been 1 3/4 boating seasons, $1400 in labour and $800 in parts (I don't beleive I actually needed any of the parts)

When I do the math I realize that I could've and should've sent Capt. Ken airline tickets, taken him fishing, drinking, etc., and gotten my boat fixed by the guy that knows something! Can you help me!?!

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

Heck, for that $2200, I'd rent Trent's plane and we'd both come up and fix that thing. No wait, ya'll got the SARs thing going now. You S.O.L. now. The problem is not the cable unless the end of it is broken off. If the lever on the engine is moving along with the cable going down to the lower unit, then the problem is somewhere down yonder where the drive bolts on. Simple fix for someone one who knows their butt from a hole in the ground. Wait, was that $2200 Canadian, if so then that comes out to somewhere around $1.99 US. I can drink more than that in a sitting.

I'd go over the river and take care of it but I'm too old to get SARS...it'd kill me sure and then where would Ken and Trent be without me?

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

You could wear one of those dust masks like they're doing in asia. Like its really gonna make a difference. The real reason is they probably won't let your sorry butt across the river. And if they did, we probably won't let you come back. I got an idea, we'll send CC.

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

CC is a great option. We'd be rid of him.. I'll tell you, Toronto is next to shut down. That SARS thing has everyone spooked. In my neck of the woods, day trip, bus trips and all unnessary travel to Toronto is about gone. That's ok..you know how many kids wound up in PBC for Easter break from Canada? Feeling kinda punk..sniffels, fever?

Re: Yamaha I/O Parts

OK, now how do you know the computer is bad? Who checked it out? I have never seen a computer failure on a YEMS unit unless someone screwed with it. Usually its a faulty sensor or bad wire. Problem is, ain't too many of us left around that know how to check these things.
