1995 225 Yamy Saltwater Series. I just installed this motor. It runs great, but once hot, idle rpm goes down into the 600 range and stalls. I was told that it should stay in the 800 range. I looked in previous postings, but didnt find anything specific to my problem

Re: Yamaha low idle rpm stall

225txtr means 225 hp,T means power trim with electric X means its 25", T does not copme up as anything, and R would place it as a 93 model. are ya positive you did not transpose anynumbers?
the model number is on top and the primary Id is on the bottom of the tag on the port bracket.
could it actually reat 225txrt ?

ok
225 TXRT, trim,25"remote control 1995 model. its also a 3.1L the L model would be a 2.6L.
makes a big difference,
test your lift pumps, test your Tstats for proper operation, test all the resistor plug caps for proper resistance. the diagnostic test lamp would show anyfailed sensors but normally any failed sensor will cause a high unstable idle.
that motor idles on 5 cylinders above about 800 and below about 1100 RPM and runs on 4 cylinders between about 1000-2000 RPM depending on conditions.
what testing/troubleshooting has been done and when was the last time the motor ran ok?

Re: Yamaha low idle rpm stall

I just got it used and ran it for the 1st time yesterday. All appears to work ok exept for a bit of vibration on idle speed. The stalling comes when in neutral. I dont have the history of the motor so I couldnt say when it ran right.
Also, Im a bit lost with lift pumps, Tstats and resistor plug gaps. I was hoping it was a loose screw or tightening a nut here or there. Im new to outboard repair, but wouldnt mind trying if its something basic.. Do you think this is an issue that could cause problems? If it is then I should take it to the mechanic...
Thanks for your help..

Re: Yamaha low idle rpm stall

get a copy of the factory service guide, this motor uses a systen called CCS, Controlled Combustion System. the ECU selects 0,1 or 2 cylinders to remove spark from depending on load and conditions.
it also uses 3 diaphram type lift pumpos that can leak and one electric pump that will keep the enrichment circuit pressurized.
if you decide the mechanic route please insure that at a minimum the tech has attended the yamaha fuel and electrical courses.
while its simple it has oddities that whack techs. even the steps for carb/tps link and sync has blown many a tech outta the water.

"insure that at a minimum the tech has attended the yamaha fuel and electrical courses"
I can tell you right now that I will not be attempting this repair...
Now my next quest is to find a good Yamaha service tech.. One last question: Do you think its something I should worry about and not go out till it's fixed or I can relax and tend to it later... Thanks Rodbolt.. :) :)
