I have two 2001 Yamaha, 200hp, HPDI's, Model: TXRX

Occasionally, the port engine will not get over 3500 RPM's. When the problem occurs it will always max out at EXACTLY 3500 RPM's.

If I slow down and turn the motor off.. then on again, the problem disappears. The problem may occur two or three times a day or not at all for a few days.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: Yamaha Max RPM problem

repost the model numbers. something is wrong.X indicates a 99 model and the first run of HPDI was an 00 model. model should read Z200t*RY or t*RZ the X or L or U will indicate if its 20" or 25" or 30" shaft. thats why I inserted the *. the Z200T*rZ will indicate an 01 model. post the model number exactly like its on the engine tag. Z200 indicates HPDI, VZ indicates V-max HPDI.

Re: Yamaha Max RPM problem

I had 250 ox66's and occasionally they would not get past idle. I guessed it was fuel starvation by either a collapsing fuel line (like when a baby sucks a nipple from a bottle) or bad filter. Like you, I would turn off and restart and usually got back to speed. Never did find the problem and ended up selling the motors and switching to Suzuki 4 strokes. ox66's are reliable but thirsty!
