Yamaha / Mercury Controls

I'm looking at replacing my twin 1999 F80s with a single 2005 Mercury 225 EFI Saltwater Series motor. I currently have Yamaha 703 control boxes mounted side by side, the replacement motor has a dual binnacle control and a remote key panel.

Is there a chance that I could hook up a 703 control to the four stroke (Yamaha-built) Mercury motor?

Re: Yamaha / Mercury Controls

I got a hold of the controls from the mercury motor. I found a short harness adapter plugged into the main harness at the outboard. It is the exact same 10 pin plug as my yamaha plug on the engine end of it. The other end of the adapter goes to what I'm assuming is a mercury style plug. The rest of the mercury harness looks bad with substantial corrosion....... so if I can make the yamaha harness work I'd like to.

The control cable ends differ on the mercury cables from what I have on my yamaha cables. I didn't think to look at where it hooks up on the mercury outboard to see if the yamaha style cable is an option on the outboard.

Yamaha harness coming off of the merc. motor with an adapter for merc harness......
Merc control ends......

Anyone have suggestions for me?

Re: Yamaha / Mercury Controls

Looking at the the boats.net parts catalog for this motor I see P/N 889355A1 listed as an "ADAPTER KIT, Engine End Mounting of Throttle/Shift Cables".... but there is no drawing of it.... this makes makes me want to go back and see if there is a Yamaha connection on the motor with an adapter for the mercury controls.

Is there any difference in the control harnesses between a 1999 F80 with carburetors and a fuel injected 2005 F225?

This in fact is basically a 2005 Yamaha and not one of the 2004 F225s that had the corrosion issues.... right?

Can I reference the F225 for parts?

Can anyone tell me more about this outboard?
