What year Yamaha 4 strokes have the NEMA 2000 output that the Garmin 5212 needs to display gauge functions?

NEMA 2000 systems will ONLY work on 2006 and new Yamaha motors

... with the exception of certain 2005 model year four stroke motors which were manufactured in calendar year 2004.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Did you mean, "The engines' ignition switches must both be in the 'on' position in order for the Garmin unit to display the engines' data?" If so, that is true because the motors' onboard computers (ECMs) must be powered up in order to transmit data.

Or, is your complaint that your external GPS antenna is powered through your ignition switch? If that is the case, your external antenna may be powered independently with its own dedicated switch.

my question wasnt very clear...the garmin 4212 works great but if I want the GPS to get signals one of the ing. switches must be in the on position . Your second part of your qustion is the problem..With the ing. switch off = no ancor alarm.sorry for the confushion..I dont think its a good idea the leave one of the ing. swithes in the on position overnite to receive sat signals to keep the ancor alarm working..

I agree with your assessment of the situation. I'd change it. I'm not a Garmin owner so I do not know what specific options you may have with your unit. When I had an external GPS antenna, it was originally connected to "always hot" bus bars, and it took me a long time to figure out why my dedicated "electronics" battery was running down so fast. An in-line switch solved that problem. I just had to remember to turn my GPS antenna "on" along with everything else. With my new stuff, my GPS antenna is "internal" with the display and is powered up only when the display is "on" ... killing two birds with one stone, as my display is powered independently from the starting batteries/ignitions switches.
