I have a 1985 115ETXH. I bought a replacement oil control unit and it was an updated version that substituted the original. From what I understood in the directions, I ran a lead wire over to the terminal for the #2 coil pulse line. I think this is in place of the old mercury switches. But, I'm having trouble. The orange oil light seldom goes off. I often see it slowly flashing like the pump is turning on and off repeadidly. It does pump oil up usually, every now and then it doesn't pump the oil up and the alarm sounds. I use the emergency switch to refill and then it's fine.

I'm guessing I wired it wrong, maybe it's not supposed to be hooked up to the pulsing power from the coil??

Re: Yamaha oil control unit wiring

Hi cookiedoh. I had a similar problem with my 1985 150 ETXK. I believe that your 115ETXH is a 1987 instead of a 1985. (H in ETXH is I believe 1987 K is 1985) The oil control unit wiring changed between 1985 and 1986. It is a strong possibility that you have the wrong controller. Do you have a Yamaha shop manual for your model year? You can check the model years on boats.net/parts. You can also check for the correct part # at that site as well. Boats.net is Central Florida Yamaha and I have bought all of my Yammy parts from them in the past several years. They are reasonable, and very helpful. When I ordered the wrong oil controller, (my fault, I thought my 150 was a 1986!) they got the correct controller to me within days. I hope this helps!!!

what color wire did you run the extra oil control wire to?
the yellow lamp indicateslow oil in the remote tank or the wiring to the float switch is bad or the remote tank switch is failing. when the switch is closed it lights the green lamp. low engine tank level lights the red lamp and triggers RPM reduction. the oter two switchs in the engine tank simply turn the pump on and off.

I ran the extra lead to the terminal inside the box mounted near the timing arm. It was a black wire with a white stripe going in. Also on that terminal is the wire that runs to the #1 coil.
