i have a 2004 200 hpdi yamie outboard. The tilt- trim switch has two parts to it ,one the elec. switch itself and a round piece of plastic that goes around the shaft. It is split and a screw thru it to tighten it down after you set it a position that will show on dash where motor is trimed . My guestion is to anyone who has changed this piece of plastic can you pull apart the plastic piece to go over the mounting bar or do you have to disasemble rod and slip it thru. I know that this is about as clear as mud , but if anyone has changed one they might understand me. thanks kb kindle

Re: yamaha outboard tilt trim switch

Ihad this issue on my f115. I used a hose clamp wide enuf to drill a hole big enuf to put the tooth from the original plastic clamp. I broke the original up so all that was left was the tooth and a little of the clamp.
You will have to figure out where to place the tooth, I placed mine about 1/2 inchfrom the tooth on the switch or potentiometer with the motor ran all the way up. this way when you start to trim it down the motor will go down some before it contacts the tooth and the guage reading starts.
You may have to adjust it a little more or less.
I figure that stainless hose clamp will last better than the plastic one did.
This fix is complements of another guy here that gave me the idea.

Maybe not the answer you are looking for tho.
I wondered the same thing you are about how to take it apart?

yamaha makes a stainless replacement for this. its about 15 bucks. there is a protrusion on the collar that fits into the hole in the tilt tube be sure to get those lined up then tighten the screw supplied.
