Have a 1992 Hurricane with the 4.3L Yamaha sterndrive.
We purchased the boat right after it had the exhaust bellows replaced. When we water tested it everything ran fine except after a while of shifting it acted like the shift cables became loose. Neutral became very hard to find (from reverse you had to go almost to forward to get neutral and the opposite from forward)
I took it in and had the cables adjusted - that seem to do the trick.
But after about 10 or shifts the boat would not come out of forward.
The took the LU off and found the cable had "popped out" of the holder - they reassembled and readjusted everything and said it was working fine.
The thing is it will shift fine for several attempts then the cable seems pop loose in the LU. Everything seems fine - shifts fine for a while then pops out.
Everyone is at a loss right now....
Any idea what would cause this and the remedy?
