Recently picked up GW with 2001- 250 yamaha - 2 stroke -
Familiar with IOs ,
OB new for me , getting familiar with this power package
Previous owner showed me invoice of recent work done Feb this year
impeller ,
VST - rebuilt
quart of gear oil - not sure if they topped off or changed ? ( takes more then a quart )

invoice indicated added quart gear oil ,not indicating changing, plus takes more then quart ,
Yesterday dropped oil too make sure it was clean ,
color was aqua , blueish , little water was visible as it mixed with gear oil
sat open over night making sure everything drained
Following day pressure tested ,
removed prop , hooked up pressure pump ,
pumped away , spraying soapy water on shaft seal , No bubbles
PSI held at 12 quite some time until I released
Knowing correct way is too removed and inspect lower unit but since impeller was recently replaced figured it was good ,
did notice drain plug & vent plug opened easily flat head , no pressure ,
Not uncommon for water intrusion thru screws or faulty gaskets,
purchased new O Ring gasket
My thoughts , since impeller was done by reputable shop , psi held on shaft seal no bubbles , I'm goona add new Yamaha gear oil , drain after few usage drain , take a chance ,
what do you think ?

I wouldn’t even drain it. Simply crack the plug.

Water would be the first thing that comes out. No water, you’re good to go.

Loose drain and vent will let some in if it has sat in water and run since it was serviced.
I would run it for a few hours in the water as normal and check again to make sure it is not getting water in it.
make sure to drain it into a clean container so you can put it back in if no problems found.
if enough water gets in, it may seperate and layer out of the bottom, but if you see milky looking stuff, you know water has entered or you did not get it all out last time
