I bought a new old boat this year that came with twin 1998 150 HP Yamaha Saltwater series engines.

The guy that I got the boat from said that I am better off flushing the engine by connecting a hose straight to the hose connection between the lower unit and engine (and not to use the old muffs).

A couple of weeks ago I used the muffs and both engines pissed water right away. Today I tried the same thing and neither engine pissed any water when they were started up. I then shut them both down and hooked it up the other way. they both then pissed water like race horses.

Does anyone have any idea why the muff method would stop working? If it happened with just one engine I would have thought that there was either a water pump or blockae issue. Having it happen to both engines at the same time threw me for a loop.

I did not have time to water test it.

Thanks

dont run the engines on the flush attachment. its a sure fire way to destroy your water pump.
the flush attachment tees into the cooling system under the powerhead after the water pump and is only intended to flush the "block". its an interim device for use between haulouts when you can use the ears. if you ran it for any length of time with the water connected to only the flush attachment you should have your waterpumps checked.
