yamaha power output and strange sound

Hi all <br />first part anyone know of the power output of a yamaha 8 hp i dont have the number handy for the outboard but i know it is old i was just wondering what the power output was on the yamaha 8hp and also a johnson 4hp if anyone knows this would be great <br />also i have just replaced the coils on the yamaha and im not sure if its just me but it seams to run fine but sounds as tho it is running ruff could this just be me used to listning to 2 stroke bikes and expecting the outboard to sound the same it ticks over no probs and revs great just sounds ruff <br />any ideas <br />thanks all great site keep it up <br /><br />ps i live in the top of scotland so not near any boat yards to let them hear it i think its just me thinking it should sound like a 2 stroke bike lol

hello<br /> the 8hp is aboput 8 horse power. the 4 is about 4 horse power. they will sound nothing like a bike. most bikes dont have water cooled exhaust systems and if you running these engines on the stand with no water you will roast the water pumps. good luck and keep posting

thanks for that i was just realy not sure about the noise i already know to always run them in water i was just woundering about not sure if this is the right word but the thrust power from the 2 outboards just so i know what sort of power diffrence to expect with the 8hp yamaha to the 4hp johnson <br />i only have a small 10 or 11ft flat bottom fishing boat and havent tryd it on the water yet <br />thanks<br />Brian
